    Air and Simple Gifts

You will recognize the old Shaker hymn "Simple Gifts" in John Williams "Air and Simple Gifts.  The words are to me profound and the tune never fails to prick my heart.  To juxtapose the essence of simplicity with the grandeur of the inauguration of our President makes it even more poignant.  Here from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Gifts are the words:

'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,
'Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.

    When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come round right.

I enjoyed listening to these.  Not sure how long they will be available for free.  Dylan's still on that endless tour but no stops on the current schedule are below 41° latitude and those far enough west to reach me in Portland  are all in Canada.

    Memorial Day

I sometimes feel surrounded by those who genuinely feel there is nothing greater than their own welfare.  A philosophy Ayn Rand espoused with great success in her truly fine work "The Fountainhead"; I did not care much for "Atlas Shrugged".  Fortunately there are a few who willingly face death believing that their is something greater than themselves worth sacrificing for.  Listen to one here 'Lost Boy' of Sudan Served U.S. in Iraq : NPR.  These are the true Atlas's of our world.  I thank them.

The first instant of the Big Bang

This is not science.  It is religion as the only way for one to know how these things work is to have been told by the One who did them.  All studies of our ultimate origins that fail to comprehend this fact are doomed to failure.  In that spirit here is a puzzle.  Before looking up the below Bible verse can you tell me what it refers too?  In THE beginning what was created before anything else or should I ask who?

"The Lord formed me from the beginning, before he created anything else."  Pasted from <http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Pr%208;&version=51;>
